An international team of researchers (USA – SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sweden, Italy) used an ultrafast electron diffuse scattering technique to resolve the nonequilibrium phonon dynamics in femtosecond–laser-excited tungsten in both time and momentum.
